While Hans Wilsdorf’s revolutionary innovations concerned the technical features of the wristwatch, they were also the fruit of an extremely strong aesthetic vision. Specially developed for the Sky-Dweller, the patented Saros annual calendar is a key element in the model’s identity. The name of this mechanism, with its innovative design, is inspired by the Greek term denoting the cycle of lunar and solar eclipses.

Developed by Rolex, the patented Ring Command system is an innovative mechanism of interaction between the rotatable bezel, winding crown and movement. It allows the Sky-Dweller’s different functions to be selected easily, quickly and securely, before adjusting them with the winding crown.

By turning the fluted bezel counterclockwise – the profile of which is accentuated to make it easier to handle – the wearer chooses the indication that they wish to set. First notch: date and month. Second notch: local time. Third notch: reference time.

The models are paired with a three-piece link Oyster bracelet, which is secure and comfortable. It is equipped with a folding Oysterclasp and the Easylink comfort extension link, developed by Rolex, that enables the wearer to adjust the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm.

The Oyster Perpetual is made exclusively of Oystersteel. Specially developed for Rolex, Oystersteel belongs to the 904L steel family – alloys that are most commonly used in high technology. Oystersteel is extremely resistant to corrosion, offers an exceptional finish once polished and maintains its sheen over time.

From 2022, the Air-King’s 40 mm case includes a crown guard and has straight sides like the majority of Professional category models. The watch’s display has also been refreshed and is perfectly balanced thanks to the addition of a “0” before the “5” on the minutes scale. Each five-minute interval is, therefore, now marked by two digits. The 3, 6 and 9 numerals are also now visible in the dark thanks to the luminescent material of the Chromalight display.
