Here are 5 Tudor timepieces to usher in the Year of the Tiger

As we bid farewell to the Year of the Ox, it’s time to ready ourselves for 365 days of new adventures. After all, the tiger is closely associated with energy and enthusiasm. In the Year of the Tiger, it’s only natural to see everyone fired up for disruptions – good ones, of course – in career, romance and at home.

The Tiger is symbolically powerful, ambitious and daring while also exuding a certain charm – a combination of confidence and class.

Tudor embodies many of these traits – read on to discover the perfect timepieces to bring you roaring success this year.

Powerful: Black Bay Ceramic

In Tudor’s current stable of timepieces, the Black Bay Ceramic is probably the creation at the top of the pyramid in terms of innovation. It sports all the elements expected of a Black Bay but also ups the ante by showcasing Tudor’s technical prowess, particularly with its Master Chronometer certification from METAS, Switzerland’s Federal Institute of Metrology.

Its monobloc ceramic case is a representation of Tudor’s supreme grasp of technical know-how involving the high-tech material. It sports sand-blasted surfaces with bevelled edges, mirror-polished for a striking contrast, and is finished with very pronounced lines. To earn the METAS certification, a watch has to be Swiss-made and COSC-certified first (this means it has already passed a set of stringent quality control tests) before being tested in precision, resistance to magnetic fields, waterproofness and power reserve. Of course, the Black Bay Ceramic passes these tests with flying colours – this only goes to show how much of a powerhouse it truly is.

Ambitious: Black Bay GMT
Sporting the Black Bay GMT on the wrist is a clear indication that the wearer is ambitious and always ready to take on the world. Equipped with a highly functional GMT function, the watch can indicate time over several time zones, making it the perfect timepiece to travel the world with. The wearer is likely a frequent business flyer, clinching major deals in different cities – both physically and virtually.

The 41 mm-wide Black Bay GMT is recognisable by its rotatable bezel, which sports a deep blue and burgundy colour theme, and distinguishes itself from other models in the line with a matte bezel. Waterproof to 200m (660ft), the Black Bay GMT comes with a choice of a riveted steel bracelet with polished and satin finish, a “Terra di Siena” brown leather strap with folding clasp and safety catch, or a black fabric strap with a burgundy band.

With its strong looks, the Black Bay GMT is a watch perfectly suited for those chasing their ambitions.

Daring: Black Bay Chrono
The Black Bay Chrono is built on a daring premise: the combination of Tudor’s heritage of divers’ watches with a chronograph, which is closely associated with motorsport. Precision, however, ties the two different worlds together, leading to the birth of a Tudor icon.

The key elements of the Black Bay collection, such as a dial inspired by Tudor’s divers’ watches produced in the 1950s and the iconic “snowflake” hands, are preserved in a steel case fitted with pushers similar to those on the Oysterdate. The first generation of Tudor chronographs, the Oysterdate was released in 1970. A fixed bezel in circular satin-brushed steel with engraved tachymetric scale completes the face of this sporty chronograph. The Black Bay Chrono is powered by the COSC-certified Manufacture Calibre MT5813, which boasts a power reserve of 70 hours. An industrious workhorse with matinee good looks, the watch is the epitome of Tudor’s manifesto, #BornToDare, indeed.

Talk about presence on the wrist – the Tudor Royal with its sporty chic looks is a handsome and confident timepiece.

Confident: Tudor Royal
The first thing one notices of the Tudor Royal is the notched bezel. Its alternating surface polish and cut grooves makes for a strong design element and it takes someone with poise and confidence to carry the automatic sport-chic watch with aplomb.

Available in four sizes in stainless steel or gold and stainless steel, the Tudor Royal features Roman numeral applique hour markers and baton-shaped hands on its dials. There are 14 dial options, many of which come with a sunray motif radiating from the centre, while a more feminine version with a diamond-set mother-of-pearl dial is also available. Completing the sophisticated look of the timepiece is the integrated “five-link” metal bracelet, a design first seen in Tudor creations as early as 1973.

A timeless design, the Tudor 1926 is suitable for all occasions and appeals to both men and women.

Classy: Tudor 1926
The 1926 collection is Tudor’s range of timeless and elegant watches for both men and women. Regardless of the dial colour or size, it is a class act with a wide appeal.

Domed for a vintage touch and adorned at the centre, its dial features a delicately embossed design that offers a contrasting design counterpoint to the smooth minute scale. With it available in steel or steel and gold, wearing it for work or play is a cinch. It also helps that the 1926 line is available in 28 mm, 36 mm, 39 mm and 41 mm in width, which means that is an option for everyone, from couples to families. The case finishing is refined, while there are also versions with rose gold finishing touches. Ergonomics play a significant role for this watch too: its bracelet, which is made up of seven links of varying sizes, sits comfortably on the wrist. Its timeless aesthetics and high level of comfort when worn makes the 1926 such a popular creation – and one that will likely outlast the ebbs and flows of trends too.

Gong xi fa cai! Kee Hing Hung wishes clients, readers and watch enthusiasts prosperity, fortune, health and happiness in the Year of the Tiger.
